Real Talk

It’s the conversations that transpire and inspire

When differences are not used as limitations, rather pathways for learning and developing

A more nuanced consciousness

The opening of hearts, minds and third eyes

It’s the dialogue that’s opened, not shied away from

The voicing of the niche, taboo, quirky and stigmatized

Topics that are silenced otherwise

Must become those we refuse to meet with shame and compliance

Now is the time

It’s the discourse and recourse

Lead by the Radiant One

The medicine prescribed by she who says what everyone else is thinking

You call it stirring the pot

I say it must be done, and I shall lead

With integrity, which is not for the taking

It’s the invigorating chin-wags, knee-slaps and kikis

The infectious cackles, the warmth felt from the faith you have yet to see

Tears of joy

Tears of solace

From being heard, understood and seen

When humanity takes the place of bigotry

It’s the storytelling that binds and weaves

When sisters can heal from our shared trials and triumphs

It should not only be a once-in-awhile, soul-nourishing feast, or an indulgent treat

The bridge that allows the Griot and the Seanchaí to meet

When we can become united by our morals, values and beliefs

Let’s talk

Let’s have a Real Talk

Us, You, Me and We
